Major League Baseball Player, Manager. He spent more than half a century in professional baseball. He played one year for the New York Giants before entering the United States Navy during World War II. He became a coach for the Giants after the war. He was the 1971 National League Manager of the Year with the San Francisco Giants. He also had stints as manager with the Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs. He finished his career as a scout for the Houston Astros.
