She earned her Ph.D. from Michigan State University and taught at the University of Dayton, Marquette University and MSU.
Genie was a life-long writer and she adored spending time with her grandchildren who called her "GG".
She was preceded in death by her son, Mark David Brunner.
Surviving are son, Steven (Dayna) Brunner; grandchildren Kyle, Lauren, Rebecca, Mitchell and Thomas Brunner, and Samantha London; daughter-in-law-Bobbi Jo (Sam) London and brother John Hotis.
Services were held Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the funeral home.
