REV. DR. OLDEN McKINLEY RAY SR, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at Parkview Hospital. Born in Asheville, N.C., he was a United States Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was an accomplished writer, artist and sculptor. After spending several years in college and the workforce, he along with the assistance of his wife, the late Dr. Mary C. Ray, founded the Central City Mission through the social media of the Pastor of Chapel of the Road Church/Chapel of the Road telecast via Channel 57. Surviving are his four children, Olden Jr., Rev. Ola, Jonathan (Rhonda) Ray and Sandra Ray-Vaz; two brothers, Rev. Dr. Levonia Ray and Nathaniel Ray; one sister, Marion Wilkerson; six grandchildren, Rashida, Bomani, Amani, Jabar, Niomi and Xavier; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, viewers and friends. Service is 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at Southern Heights Baptist Church with calling two hours before service. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home.
