Reta M. Badder, 78 of Independence, Mo., passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012, at the Villages of Jackson Creek. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Mound Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the chapel. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org. Reta was born Jan. 26, 1933, in Fairmount, Mo., to Marvin O. and Edith A. (Winslow) Kennon and has been a lifelong area resident. She had worked as a financial coordinator for Dr. Jerald E. Elrod, D.D.S. from 1966 until she retired in 1995. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and especially spending time with family. She was a member of the Community of Christ Summit Grove Congregation. She was married to Robert G. Badder on Feb. 10, 1950; he preceded her in death on April 22, 2007. Survivors include two daughters, Debra Smith and her husband Jim and Glenda Gooch and her husband Karl all of Independence; two brothers, Del Kennon of Blue Springs, Mo., and Denny Kennon of Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Logan Smith (Heather), Chad Gooch, Garrett Smith (Rachel) and Kara (Gooch) Cavanaugh (Andy) and two great grandchildren, Elle Nadine Cavanaugh and Camdyn Elizabeth Smith.
