Gordy McQuire died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in Temple. He was born October 12, 1958 in Newport Beach, California to Joe and Patricia McQuire.
After graduating from Fort Benton High School in Montana in 1977, Gordy enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed and served in Germany, Kuwait, Israel, Egypt, and Honduras as a soldier and, after flight school in Alabama, a helicopter pilot. After achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, Gordy retired in 2000. He was certified as a Master Peace Officer in 2004. He was employed with Bell County Sheriffs Patrol Division between March 2000 and September 2005. In 2005 he returned to one of his greatest joys, flying helicopters, with Metro Aviation and Petroleum Helicopters, Inc. as an air medical pilot.
Gordy earned an Associate's Degree in General Studies from Central Texas College in 1985, as well an Associate's Degree in Applied Science-Career Pilot in 1987. In 1990, Gordy graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Science from the University of Central Texas. In 2003 and 2005, he earned a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master's Degree in Science At the time of his death he was pursuing a doctoral degree in Criminal Justice through Capella University.
Gordy was very involved in local service organizations. He was an active member of the 3C Cowboy Fellowship Church in Salado. He also was a Master Mason and a member of the Salado Masonic Lodge #296. Finally, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Salado and the Blue Knights.
When Gordy took a moment from his service of others, he especially enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He spent a great deal of time restoring classic cars, designing collector knives, spending time with his family and many friends, and tending to his home
in Salado.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Ann (Kelley) McQuire, and two brothers, Joseph and Jack McQuire.
Survivors include his father, Joseph McQuire; wife, Rachel (Velasquez) McQuire; sons, Kyle Doug McQuire, Junior Ceballos; three daughters, Kimberly Ann-Marie McQuire; Vanessa Lynn Alvarado, Harley Visa McQuire; three brothers, Greg, Jay, and George McQuire; three sisters, Kelly, Autumn, and Allison McQuire; nine grandchildren, Campbell Caroline McQuire, Kameryn Amora Vaden, Triton Drake Vaden, Chris Ceballos, Chris Garcia, Jacob Romo, Nathan Romo, Destynie Ceballos, and Gianah Ceballos
