Dog. Beloved Family Pet. Faithful Friend.

Belle was inherited by the family when her first family realized that when living in an apartment with a no pets clause meant, no pets. They had to find a new home and we were talked into it. We were hesitant at first since at the time we did not have any other pets and we just were not sure that we wanted another mouth to feed and care for (there were already two small children in the house) but we had a house with a yard and decided to take a chance. It was a decision that we never regretted. She ended up being a fine dog but she still had her fair share of doggie issues to deal with.

Belle was a digger and a jumper and a curious dog. One of her favorite things to do was to climb the fence so she could see what was on the other side. Once the neighbor decided to get a dog themselves, it became a problem because Belle would jump over the fence to play. The neighbor didn't really appreciate that.

Belle had one more issue that we didn't find out about until a couple of years later. The family decided that it was time to grow a bit and so a cat was added. Belle was a very sociable dog and she loved being around people and other dogs but apparently, not cats. The two had be kept separated and if not for the untimely loss of Belle, Sophie the cat would probably still be locked up in the den.

Belle was one of the smartest dogs I've ever known. She learned commands with ease and seemed to be able to figure out most any situation. That ability may have been her downfall for she was also an escape artist and couldn't be kept in the yard or even tied up. On the morning of January 31st she and her cohort-in-crime, Casey, dug out of the yard once more. They were noticed missing shortly afterward but but it was too late. We got a call from the a county sheriff that she had been hit by a car and had to be put down on site. It was a crushing loss to the entire family but she still lives in our hearts and always will.

We miss you Belle!
