HUNTSVILLE — Katherine Deaver, at age 83, passed away in Huntsville, Texas, on January 6, 2012, surrounded by friends and family. She was born on August 4, 1928, in Belton, Texas (Bell County), to William Henry Harkins. and Alta Mae Robbins Harkins. Katherine was a graduate of 1947 Belton High School Class.

Katherine was preceded in death by husband, Charles Deaver; parents; and brother Charles Henry Harkins. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Sherri Ray and husband Ronnie; son Scott Deaver; grandchildren, Quintin B. Skidmore and wife Angie, Daniel G. Skidmore, Kacy Frerichs and husband Ryan and Kayla Ray; great-grandchildren, Madison and Teja Skidmore, Johanna Skidmore, Allison and Breann Jordy; sister Edna Spence; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Katherine and Charles were active members of Cook Spring Baptist Church and Northside Baptist Church in Huntsville. They were lifetime members of Walker County Fair Association.

She loved cooking for her family and friends and making clothes for her children. She was a great seamstress and a great lover of horses. Katherine was a great wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Services for Katherine will be held Monday, January 9, 2012, 10:00 a.m., at Cook Springs Baptist Church, in Huntsville, with Rev. Robert Nichols officiating. Interment services will be at 3:00 p.m., in the North Belton Cemetery, Belton, Texas. Family will receive friends Sunday, January 8, 2012, 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas.

Alma Katherine Harkins Deaver was born to William Henry Harkins and Alta Mae Robbins Harkins in 1928.

The youngest of three children, Katherine graduated Belton High School in 1947 and married Charles Edwin Deaver on June 24, 1950. Charles and Katherine moved to Amarillo, Texas while Charles served as a B1-Bomber mechanic instructor in the United States Air Force.

Katherine worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell before leaving the work place in 1959 to begin raising her new adopted baby girl Sherri Charline Deaver. In 1962 Charles and Katherine decided to adopted a baby boy - William Scott Deaver.
