Robert Harold Houchen, 73, of Litchfield, passed away, December 25, 2000, at the Litchfield Nursing Centre.

Mr. Houchen was born March 17, 1927, in Homer Township, to Harold J. and Gladys (Carson) Houchen.

He married Mary Louise Harrington on October 23, 1948. She survives.

Mr. Houchen was a graduate of Litchfield High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the Naval Reserve.

He worked at Wolfinger Hardware in heating and plumbing for 20 years.

He worked at the Litchfield Dairy for 19 years.

He was a member of the Harry S. Kelley American Legion Post, Litchfield, and life member of the Litchfield I.O.O.F.

For 28 years, Mr. Houchen was a fireman with the Litchfield Fire Department.

He was a member of the Litchfield United Methodist Church.

He was secretary-treasurer for the Litchfield bowling league for many years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Martha (Martin) Ladd , Vicki Palmatier , and Lori (Phil) Mindala ; three sisters, Helen Smith , Dorothy Forshey and Donna Spier, ; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Houchen was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a brother and his parents.
