William Lucas Valentine was the son of William Valentine, b. in NY. and Susan Lucas, b. in Edinburgh, Scotland.

VALENTINE, WILLIAM LUCAS, Oil, Los Angeles, California, was born March 8, 1870, in Mendocino County, California, the son of William Valentine and Susan (Lucas) Valentine. He married Louie Chandler Robinson, May 27, 1896, at St Pauls Church in Los Angeles and has four children. (Louie was the daughter of Joseph Winchester Robinson, who founded Robinson's Dept. Store.)

Mr. Valentine is a graduate of the Lincoln Grammar School of San Francisco, 1885. He attended the Commercial High School of San Francisco for an additional year.

He went to work for Carrick, Williams & Wright Company of San Francisco in the lumber and box business. He resigned to take a place with the Easton Eldridge Company, one of the largest real estate firms of San Francisco. He worked in the various departments of the firm until 1893, when he was put in charge of a branch office at Los Angeles, under the direction of Major George Easton. He resigned in 1900 to organize the Fullerton Oil Company, a corporation capitalized for $600,000. The new company began with the ownership of fifty acres of proven oil land. With a single assessment, oil in quantity was found. From the profits an additional 380 acres were bought. The reports of the concern in 1911 state that $651,000 in dividends had been paid and that there was no debt. Mr. Valentine is the largest stockholder and is secretary and general manager of its affairs.

He was chosen a director in the Merchants' National Bank of Los Angeles in 1910, and is now well started in big business.

He is a director of the California Club, director of the Automobile Club of Southern California, member of the Cerritos Gun Club, Bolsa Chica Gun Club, South Bay Shooting Club and San Gabriel Valley Country Club. He is a junior member of the Society of California Pioneers.

He was on the Board of Directors for the Automobile Club of Southern California starting in 1910 and serving as President from 1921 to 1926 and continued on the Board until his death in 1942.

William was also a member of Southern California Lodge No.278, Los Angeles Commandery No.9, and a life member of Al Malaikah Shrine.

His wife's full name was Louie Chandler Valentine. She was 46 yrs. old, b. in MA. William and Louie married May 27, 1896.
William was b. in Noyo, CA. on Mar. 08, 1870.
William's father, also named William Valentine, was b. in NY and was now deceased.
William Lucas Valentine had never resided outside of the U.S., was living in Los Angeles, CA. and was the President of Fullerton Oil Co.
He intended to leave from NY and go abroad for an indefinite amount of time to the British Isles, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Monaco, Holland and Belgium.
William was described as 6'1 1/2" in height, with a high forehead, brown eyes, medium straight nose, straight mouth, round chin, black & gray hair, fair complexion and a medium oval face.

William L. Valentine One of Group That Founded San Marino
William L. Valentine, 72, pioneer Southland oil man and one of the founders of the city of San Marino, died yesterday at his home, 1421 Wilson Ave., San Marino. He had been in ill health for the last two years.
Born is Noyo, Cal., he was educated in San Francisco and came to Los Angeles in 1890. He founded the Fullerton Oil Co. in 1900 and was its secretary for 10 years and president for the last 32 years.
BANK EXECUTIVE
Valentine was a director of the Los Angeles branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco from 1925 to 1929 and was chairman of the board from 1926 to 1929. He also was director of the Security-First National Bank for many years.
In 1932, he was elected president of the J. W. Robinson Co., after serving as director of the company for 18 years and treasurer for nine years. He served as director of the California Institute of Technology and also as chairman of the board of the California Community Foundation.
CITY FOUNDER
He was one of the founders of the city of San Marino in 1912 and served as a member of the City Council there for 25 years before retiring in 1938. He also was president of the Bolsa Chica Gun Club the California Club, Pacific Union Club and the Bohemian Club.
Valentine was married in 1896 to Louie C. Robinson, daughter of the late J. W. Robinson, founder of the J. W. Robinson Co.
He leaves his widow
and five children, Mrs. Julia Stewart, Mrs. Susan Buckingham and William W., Edward R. And Henry W. Valentine, all of Pasadena.
Funeral services will be announced later.
