Born in Blenheim, SC, Mary Duke was a daughter of the late Oswell Boyce McLeod Sr. and Mary Clifton Duke McLeod. She graduated from Columbia High School and Columbia College and taught in elementary schools. She married Rev. J. O. "Joe" Reed Jr. in 1946 and served faithfully as a pastor's wife in 12 churches and was very active in all facets of church life. She was very creative and particularly enjoyed knitting and sewing.
Surviving are her husband, 1 daughter, 3 sons, 1 brother, 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter Ellen Reed Fuseler, son John O. Reed, III, four sisters, and two brothers.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012, in the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. The service was officiated by Rev. Rocky Purvis, Rev. Yu-Fong Chong and Rev. Charlton Bozard.
