"Another one of our older citizens has answered the call to leave this earth of toil and care at the ripe age of 83 years, 10 months and 10 days.
Thaddeus Anderson was born in Genesee County, New York, March 30, 1837, and died at the home of his son, U. A. Anderson, at Pickering, Mo., February 10, 1921. He was the son of Squire and Emiline Anderson. His grandparents were natives of Ireland.
In the year 1839 he moved with his parents to Ohio, and in 1846 to Peoria County, Ill. He was educated in the public schools of Ohio and Ill.
He was married to Lecy F. Lane January 7, 1863. To this union four children were born, Ulysses A., of Pickering and Loren at home, two dying in infancy.
In 1864, he and his wife moved to Missouri, settling in Andrew county. They later moved to Gentry and Holt Counties, and in 1897 they came to Nodaway county, living on a farm 8 miles northwest of Skidmore until his wife's death nearly seven years ago. For the past five years he and his son, Loren have lived at Burlington Junction.
He was whole-souled and of a hospitable disposition. to his many friends he gave a cheerful welcome. Uncle Thad, as he was commonly called, was a man of business ability, and a lover of nature. For the last few years he has been just a child again, loving little children and speaking words of praise about his grandchildren.
He fell asleep as a child in its mother's arms, and Uncle Thad has gone home to meet his loved ones who had gone before where parting is never known.
He is survived by two sons, U. A. Anderson of Pickering and Loren of Burlington Junction, and two brothers, Squire of Iowa and Andrew of California.
Funeral services were held at Burr Oak on Monday, February 14 and he was laid to rest beside his wife in the Burr Oak cemetery.
Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were two nephews, George and William Anderson of Laclede, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Ora Miller and family and Mr. and Mrs. O. R. Kennedy of Holt county, Mrs. U. M. Wilson of Kalvesta, Kans., and Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Owens of Graham."
