Calvin D. Crabtree, 90, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center. He was born June 18, 1921 in Hopkins County the son of the late John Wesley Crabtree and Sarah Vanden Warren Crabtree.
He was a WWII Army Veteran, where he served as Antitank Gun Crewman and was awarded a Purple Heart, the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, and Bronze Star Victory Medal, and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Madisonville, KY.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Juanita Hawkins, and brother Earl Wayne Oakley and is survived by his wife, Bonnell Crabtree; three sons, John (Trisha) Crabtree, Douglas (Delores) Crabtree, and Tommy (Darlene) Crabtree all of Madisonville; one sister, Linda Outlaw of Eddyville, KY; four grandchildren, Marc Crabtree, Eric Crabtree, Kristin Hall, and Seth Crabtree; and two great grandchildren, Matthew and Emma Crabtree.
Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 23, 2011 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Glen Sowards, Dr. Don Davis, and Rev. Wayman McGuire. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Hopkins County Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Madisonville, envelopes available at the funeral home.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00P.M., Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the funeral home.
