Graveside services for W. Dean Abrahams, 77, of Caldwell, who died Wednesday, September 30, 1992, at a Caldwell nursing home, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 5, 1992 at the Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell. Reverend Phillip Hanni of the United Methodist Church, Caldwell, will officiate. Lodge Rites will be by B.P.O.E. #1448, Caldwell, Idaho, under the direction of Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery.
Mr. Abrahams was born September 3, 1915 at Topeka, Kansas, a son of Olaf M. and Sarah Reeder Abrahams. After Sarah's death Dean was raised by his stepmother Olive. He married Arleen Hubbard of Cuba, Kansas, on January 1, 1938, at Alhambra, California, and one daughter was born to this union, Dee Anne. Dean attended Kansas State University on a U.P.R.R. Scholarship. He then worked for Cudahay Packing Co. in Los Angeles, California. In 1950 he moved his family to Idaho and started the I.O.N. Cattle Co. of which he was the owner/operator until his retirement. During this time Dean served in the Idaho State Senate from 1977 to 1982. During his years as a cattle buyer, Dean also served as president of the National Cattle Dealer Association. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge and the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Dee Anne Richardson; four grandchildren, Casandra Crowell, Shelly Wiley-Vegwert, Ted Wiley and Boyd Wiley; seven great-grandchildren; his brother Maynard Abrahams of Taft, Texas; sisters, Emily Eichmann of Chester, Nebraska, and Carolyn Ott of Merritt Island, Florida.
The family suggests that memorials be given to the Elks Rehab., P.O. Box 1100, Boise, Idaho 83701 or the Alzheimer's Foundation, 4620 Overland Road, Boise, Idaho 83705.
