Mrs. Edna Gallagher Shannon , 86, of Macon died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at her residence. Her funeral service will be held Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Macon Independent Methodist Church with Rev. Barry Hathcock officiating. Interment will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 4-6 p.m. at Cockrell Funeral Home, Inc. in Macon, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macon Independent Methodist Church, P.O. Box 421, Macon, Ms 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shannon was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on August 29, 1925 to the late Charles and Emma Wentz Gallagher. She graduated from high school in Brooklyn, N.Y. and went on to work on Wall Street for Merrill Lynch. She met Bill Shannon in 1945 in New York after he returned from Pearl Harbor. They married and moved to Lambert, M.S. and then to Macon, MS. She lived in Memphis for a short time where she worked at the Cotton Exchange. She later moved back to Macon where she made her home and worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses through the years. She was a Sunday School teacher at Macon Independent Methodist Church for many years and was very active in her church's activities. She served as chairman of many committees within the church. She was involved with the youth and was Church treasurer for many years. She was a member of the Macon Junior Auxiliary where she served in several official capacities. She was a past president of the Macon Pilot Club and served as treasurer of the Republican party. She was a former member of the Frith Lake Club and Pineview Country Club. She was also a member of the Noxubee County Historical Society. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and 1 brother: Harold Gallagher.

Her survivors include her daughter Ellenor Shannon Fraley of Macon, MS; 2 sons, Harold Cooper Shannon of Indianola, MS and William Washington Shannon, Jr. (Billy) of Tyler, TX; 3 brothers, Charles Gallagher of San Leandro, CA., Ed Gallagher of Patterson, N.Y., and Raymond Gallagher of Williston Park, Long Island, N.Y.; 5 grandchildren and 5 great- grand children.
