Nancy Carolyn was born July 3, 1933, in Greensboro, NC, to Ernest Samples Killgore and Mildred Nabors Killgore. She died December 6, 2011, in Weimar, TX. Nancy was a product of the South. She spent the first seven years of her life in Jackson, MI, and lived in Charleston, SC, for three years before moving to St. Petersburg, FL, to continue with elementary school and high school. Nancy attended Florida State University for two years, and she graduated from Auburn University in 1955. As an elementary school teacher, she taught in Ft. Benning, GA, Columbus, GA, and St. Petersburg, FL. Her teaching position later brought her to Pecan Grove Baptist School in Richmond, TX.

In 1960, in Ft. Smith, AR, she met the love of her life, Jerry Green. They were married August 15, 1961, in the First Methodist Church, Ft. Smith, AR. They were married by the minister who had baptized Jerry as a baby. They lived in St. Louis, MO, and Atlanta, GA, before moving to Houston in 1967, where they founded their company, Texas Building Products. After arriving in Houston, they lived in Alief, Quail Valley in Missouri City, Pecan Grove in Richmond, and for 18 years lived on 15 acres beside the Brazos River outside of Rosenberg, where their children grew up. For 43 years, they enjoyed their family, their church, raising horses, and travelling extensively, before Jerry's death in 2007. Nancy played the piano since she was in the 3rd grade, and she sang in church choirs throughout her life.
