Vinita, OK ��" Teddy "Bear" Barnes, 57, died Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Craig General Hospital, Vinita, Oklahoma.
Bear was born June 25, 1950 at Rawlins, Wyoming to Jimmy T. Barnes and Thelma (Guy) Barnes.
He left Rawlins at an early age and grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the Grand Lake area.
Bear was a 1968 graduate of Jay (Oklahoma) High School. He attended Culinary Arts School in Chicago, Illinois and was a world-class chef, living in numerous places where his work took him. Among Bear's employers were: the Hilton Hotel chain; Playboy Mansion (Wisconsin); Big Mama's Hamburger House, Hawaii; and Red Arrow Marina on Grand Lake.
He moved from Jasper, Texas to Cleora, Oklahoma upon his retirement two years ago.
Bear enjoyed cooking; gardening and his three dogs, Chen, Novi and Precious.
He was a giving person who went door-to-door with food for his neighbors during last winter's ice storm.
Survivors include his step-mother, Mary Barnes of Muskogee, Oklahoma; two brothers, Tom Barnes and his wife, Muslimah of Metairie, Louisiana and Terry Barnes and his wife, Billie of Houston, Texas; two good friends of the family, Jerry LaGrone and Danny Sund, both of Cleora and his three dogs.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2007 in the Chapel of Luginbuel Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Baker officiating.
Mr. Barnes will be cremated following services.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. at Luginbuel Funeral Home.
