Roland served as a Platoon Sergeant and armed guard on the U.S.S. Nashville (CL-43), U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

He was "Killed In Action" when the Nashville was struck by a kamikaze off Negros Island during the war along with 133 others. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

Son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Bailey.
