Donald Henry Clarke, 79, died early Tuesday morning, Nov. 29, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Don was born May 24, 1932, in Pitt County, N.C., to the late James Henry and Roxie Abernathy Clarke. He was united in marriage to Mary Nooney Clarke in 1954. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. Don graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in mechanical engineering and worked at Lockheed Martin until his retirement in 1993 after 35 years of service. Don was preceded in death by four siblings, Evelyn Johnson, Lucille Sanders, Cecil Clarke and Mary Lou Buck; and his son, Mark.
Survivors: Loving wife of 57 years, Mary Nooney; daughters, Donna Cox and husband, Gary, of Parker, Colo., and Lyn Hargrave and husband, Mike, of Wimberley; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jason, Morgan and Michael; five great-grandchildren; sister, Linelle Warren of Forney; and nieces and nephews.
