The parents of DELMAR EUGENE 'CURLY' WILSON were JOHN TILLMAN WILSON III (1897-1960) and MARY ELSIE BROWN (1897–1966); and they were only 17 years old when they married in Essex, Stoddard County, Missouri, on 5 Apr 1915, in the home of the groom's parents, JOHN WILLIAM 'BILLY' WILSON JR. and ELETHA LUCY DOWNEN. By the time DELMAR was 4½ years old in Sep 1920, his father left him and his mother and married another woman, LILLIE MELINDA SNIDER, whose parents were very opposed to her marrying a divorced man.
DELMAR's record in the 1920 U.S. Census has not been found, but according to the 1930 U.S. Census, when he was 14 years old, he lived with an uncle and aunt, LOUIE and IRENE 'WILLIE' POOL, in East Prairie, Mississippi County, Missouri. While still a teen-ager, he moved to Mount Morris, Genesee County, Michigan, to live for the first time with his father, step-mother, and their six children. He had never met his six half-siblings: VERNON, AMNA, DOROTHY, CALVIN, NORM, and JOYCE, and they didn't know about his existence either. While living with the family at 728 Jackson Ave in Mount Morris (now Flint), Genesee, Michigan, he worked at several jobs. His younger siblings' favorite of all the jobs that he had was managing a roller skating rink for almost 2 years, where he learned to be a very proficient skater. According to his brother, Vernon, he got a job at General Motors at a time before unions existed; and he was moving a 50-gallon drum of paint which tipped over, so he was fired. Before joining the military, he also worked 6 months for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which provided employment in every state from 1933-1942 for young men in relief families during the great Depression. His pay was $30/month of which $25 went to his parents.
Delmar first enlisted in the military in 1936 when he was 20 years old, and he served in the 409th Infantry Regiment, 103rd Cactus Division, of the U.S. Army (Regular), the Army Air Corps, and the U.S. Air Force. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in his nearly 20 years of service. He was a military mechanic and also liked to work on cars. Military awards he received included:

• Purple Heart (wounded in France)
• Good Conduct Medal
• WW II Victory Medal
• Asia Pacific Medal

Because of a brain aneurysm in 1964 that limited his abilities on the job, his employer fired him! The family lost their home, moved to east-side San Jose in an old house where Delmar smelled gas and saved his family. More than just a military hero!
He underwent unsuccessful brain surgery for the aneurysm at Santa Clara County Hospital in San Jose and was transferred to a nursing home where he lingered for 8 years and died at age 56.
