|Hiram Hiller, from Clark County, Missouri, joined the 2nd Missouri State Militia Cavalry as a private with his brother John in December 1861. Promoted to adjutant in June 1862, Hiller rose to major by the end of 1862 and to lieutenant colonel in July 1863.|
The 2nd Missouri State Militia Cavalry was organized between December 1861 and April 1862 and battled guerrillas in Missouri and Arkansas, then participated in the pursuit of General Sterling Price during his raid through Missouri in 1864. The 2nd was mustered out of service on April 20, 1865.
At the close of the war Hiram became a successful banker and businessman in Clark County. He died on August 14, 1895 in Kakoka, Missouri.
