Janet Bacon, age 87, of Lakeland, FL, passed away 10:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Opis Highlands Lake Center where she had resided.
Janet was born December 17, 1927, in New Waterford, OH, a daughter of the late Orley and Bertha (Cope) Chamberlin. She was a 1945 graduate of Fairfield High School. Janet had been a former employee of Electric Furnace, Columbiana A&P, Franklin Furniture, Rusco Aluminum, Kelly Temporaries, Automatic Sprinkler, and Youngstown Sheet & Tube. Janet was a Methodist by faith.  She was also very knowledgeable of New Waterford's history.
Her husband, Wilbur Bacon, whom she married December 28, 1947, preceded her in death on November 18, 2010. They had no children, but leave nieces and nephews.
Upon their retirement, they moved to Lakeland, Florida, where with Wilbur's passion for flying they were instrumental in getting Sun & Fun Spring Break Fly In started where they volunteered for many years and watched it grow into the second largest air show in the United States.
Their love for pottery and glass led to an extensive collection of Roseville Pottery and Hisey Glass along with many other collectables and antiques and family heirlooms. Janet could be seen still driving her bright red 1978 Ford Bronco (which she called her car) around Lakeland. It turned a lot of heads and she loved it.
All their years together they traveled throughout the U.S., Hawaii, Europe, and their last trip was a cruise through the Panama Canal up to San Diego where they rented a car and drove back to Lakeland.
She leaves four nephews, Raymond, Kermit, Ronald and Keith Chamberlin; two nieces, Diana Keeble and Michelle Santimarino; and a lifetime friend, Frances Hillman.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Allan Chamberlin.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 5th, at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home, East Palestine, with Pastor Charles Ready officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service. Burial will follow in New Waterford Cemetery, New Waterford, Ohio.
Arrangements are with the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home, East Palestine.
