Roland (Tollie) Tollefson, age 85, a resident of 632 S. 20th St., Manitowoc, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
A memorial service will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 628 N. Water St., Manitowoc, on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at 11 a.m. The Rev. David Rosenow will officiate. Burial of his cremains will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, where a military graveside service will be held by Otto-Oas VFW Post #657. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Tollie was born on Feb. 27, 1919 in Manitowoc to the late Olaf and Amanda Griese Tollefson. He married Dorothy Vassilew, May 27, 1942 in Louisiana. Mrs. Tollefson preceded him in death June 10, 1983. Tollie served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre of War. He received the Silver Star during his military service. During his lifetime, he was self-employed as owner of several taverns in Manitowoc, including Tollie?s Bar, Blue Waters Inn and Crystal?s Bar. He was a longtime member of Otto-Oas VFW Post #657.
Survivors include 10 children: Gloria Andrusak, Jerry (Jennifer) Tollefson, Richard (Christy) Tollefson, Donald (Sherrie) Tollefson, Larry Tollefson, Gary (Kathy) Tollefson, all of Manitowoc; Donna (Edward) Gauthier of Two Rivers; Daniel Tollefson of Denmark; David Tollefson of Racine; and Roland (Jackie) Tollefson Jr. of Washington; two brothers: Delore Tollefson of Manitowoc; Earl (Tina) Tollefson of Florida; also 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents and wife, three brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Holy Family Hospice caregivers and to Dr. Mark Herring for their kindness and compassion.
