Janet a native of Elko was born to Wilford W. & Violet (Zunino) Wise. She was the 2nd of 6 children. She had very happy memories of her childhood at the Rip Van Winkle Mine at Lone Mountain.
After graduating from Elko High School she attended nursing school and received her LPN license. Janet then met her husband Douglas Eugene Petersen aka "Gene". They would have been married 50 years on November 18, 2011. She followed her husband while living in a boxcar traveling up and down the railroad line with two small children. She would say these times were tough but some of her best memories. They then made their home in Elko and she continued being a nurse working for Elko General Hospital. Janet with her bandages, black salve ointment & hemostats in hand would work her magic to heal anyone who called upon her for help. She then left the medical field but continued to keep her LPN license and went to work for the local telephone company and retired from Citizens Communication with 28 years of service.
Janet was loved by many and kept herself very busy, if she wasn't playing pinochle or having lunch with her Classmates of 1957 or on a road trip she was "Fishing!" Janet loved to fish and enjoyed friends and family that would accompany her. She was an elite member of the "Fishing Grannies" and could not wait to share stories of her trip!
Janet is survived by her husband Gene. Her son, Randy Petersen; Daughter, Renee (Donnie) Wright; Granddaughter, Erica (Brandon) Morris and great-grandchildren Arthur, Maison & Emma. Grandson, Tony (Carleen) Wright all of Elko. Her surviving siblings Ethel (Jack) Schlegel of Gilroy CA; Terry (LeRoy) Felch of Reno NV; Jeanne Ambrose of Carson City NV; Sam (Katie) Wise of Las Vegas NV; Denise Wise of Los Angeles CA. Along with many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
