Doris L. Horst, 73 of Gering, Nebraska died Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.
Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dale Brown officiating. Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, November 20, from 1:00 p.m. at 8:00 p.m. Doris was born on September 25, 1933 in Bridgeport, NE. to Robert and Florence (Hull) Rusmisel. She moved to Scottsbluff in 1950 attended Jr. College to receive her teaching degree. On January 14, 1955, she married Gerald Horst in Scottsbluff. The couple moved to Sterling, Colorado, where their son Bob was born in 1956. They returned to Scottsbluff and Doris started teaching in Lyman, NE. On February 13, 1958, they had their second son Rodney. She continued her teaching in Mitchell Valley School in 1961, Cedar Canyon School in 1966, and Gering Valley School in 1967. Their third son, Roger was born September 1, 1969. She taught Melbeta Schools and McKinley Schools retiring in 1991. She was a Chadron State College Alumni, a member of NEA and AARP. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed and loved her family and will be sadly missed. Survivors include her sons Robert Horst of Omaha, Rodney Horst of Gering and Roger and wife Karrie Horst of Minatare; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald (November 2004), parents and brothers David and William Rusmisel.
