Gerry was born Feb. 21, 1929, in West New York, N.J., daughter of the late Valentine Snyder and Mae DiGioia Snyder. She was raised in New Jersey and graduated high school in Lodi, N.J. She went on to receive her degree in business management from Antelope Valley College. On June 13, 1951, she entered the United States Army and honorably served our country during the Korean Conflict and was discharged Oct. 12, 1956. She married David Paul McIntire in 1975, and they made their home in California where Gerry worked as an executive secretary for the U.S. Borax Co. until her retirement in 1980. Mr. McIntire preceded her in death in 1987. Gerry traveled the United States in her motor home before settling in West Tawakoni in 1991. In 1997, she married Mr. Harlen Cook Sr.; he preceded her in death on July 24, 2006.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Kay Valdez in 2002.
Gerry was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 2559, the DAV, past president and former secretary of the Quinlan Senior Citizens Center and secretary/treasurer of the AARP Chapter 4522. She will always be remembered as a very active member of her community, she was extremely organized in all she did, and when speaking to her, she always had a smile on her face. Gerry was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Quinlan.
She is loved and will be missed by her sons, Scott Allen McIntire and wife Debbie of Quinlan and Scott Paul McIntire of California City, Calif.; daughter Catherine Hoaglund of Prescott, Ariz.; stepsons Harlen Cook Jr. and wife Char of San Antonio and Steve Cook of Carrollton; stepdaughter Christine Anguaio and husband J.R. of The Colony and Jenith Peterson and husband Jon of Coppell; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernardine Schroer of Ft. Pierce, Fla.
