When he was a young child, he was out playing and got bit by a rattlesnake. He ended up losing most of his left leg. It never deterred him as he held some very physical demanding jobs including work on the road and construction in and around Goliad for the WPA.
Richard married Sept 1921 in Goliad Co., TX to Lula DeWitt Wofford.
Prior to his death, just after his first son died and his last son was born, he loaded his family into a wagon and headed to Arkansas where his sister & her husband lived. When he died of Hogdkins disease, Lula and the kids got the wagon and went back to Texas where she had her husband buried in Glendale Cemetery.
Children: Willard Leo, Gladys Odell, Richard O'deal Jr., Joseph Preston; and, two daughters Hazel Dell and Lovie Jo (still living).
