Dennis graduated from Ocheyedan High School in 1967. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church.
Dennis was a veteran of Air Force service in Vietnam and was employed as an electrician for Pixler Electric of Spencer.
Surviving is his widow, Shirley of Spencer; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Boernsen of Ocheyedan; two brothers, Rodney of Everly and Larry at home; four sisters, Mrs. Richard (Bonnie) Rudlaff of New Orleans, LA, Mrs. Randal (Nancy) Jacobs of Sanborn; Cindy and Karen at home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McNeil of Spirit Lake, and his aunt, Mrs. Mabel Woelfle of Spirit Lake.
