Mrs. Janie Louis Carter Beckham, 91, of Port Arthur died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at Charlotte's Place in Austin, Texas. She was born in Port Arthur, Texas on October 6, 1914 to Fred G. Lorenz and Etna Derrick Lorenz. Janie was a clerk for the Port Arthur Public Library and a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Port Arthur where she taught the youth and Sunday School. She was also a member of the Port Arthur Historical Society, The Department Club of Port Arthur, Friends of the Library of the Port Arthur Library, and one of the first members of the Red Hussar Drum and Bugle Corp. She was a member of the Knife and Fork Club,Port Arthur Camera Club, and the Port Arthur Country Club where she loved to play golf. She was involved in many civic organizations also. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home of Groves. Reverend Don Falke of the First Baptist Church of Port Arthur will be officiating. Mrs. Beckham is survived by her two sons; Bill Carter and wife, Marlene of Nederland, Tx., and John Carter and wife, Liz of Austin, Tx., four grandchildren; Gary Carter of Houston, Tx., Mark Carter of Austin, Tx., Andrea Gaffney, and Christina Clohessey both of California, and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son; Philip Carter and her sister, Mary Sanford. The family would like to extend a special thanks for the care that Hazel Wilson has given Janie the past few years
