KNOXVILLE - Virginia Louise Essex, 88, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Knoxville, died at 7:53 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2003, at Alterra Clear Bridge Memory Center in Colorado Springs.
Born Dec. 31, 1914, in Knox County to Robert W. and Nealie Sandridge Herndon, she married Logan Essex on Sept. 18, 1937, in Scott County, Iowa. He died Jan. 7, 1993.
She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Tweedle.
Surviving are one daughter, Sue (and Larry) Cannon of Colorado Springs; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She lived in Knox County until 1953.
Graveside services will be at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at Knoxville Cemetery. The Rev. Scott Whiting will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville.
