VERNON - Edrie Verona Bailey, 93, of Arlington, Texas (Tarrant Co.), died Saturday, May 15, 2004, in Arlington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Symonds, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Big Valley Cemetery.
Mrs. Bailey was a second-grade teacher in Quanah.
Survivors include two sons, Richard F. of Duncan, Okla., and Jerry D. of Lawrence, Kan.; a daughter, Mary Estes of Arlington; a brother, Garland Caldwell of Hardeman County; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edrie Verona Bailey, age 93, of Arlington, Texas, died Saturday, May 15, 2004 in Arlington, Texas. Services will be Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 2:00 pm in the Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Symonds, pastor of First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Big Valley Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Edrie Bailey was born August 4, 1910 in Bosque County to Frank and Lottie Robinett Caldwell. She was born second of four living children, and the only girl. When she was five or six years old, the family moved to a farm near Medicine Mound in Hardeman County, Texas, where she spent her youth and young adulthood. Edrie attended Texas Women's College (now Texas Wesleyan University) in Fort Worth, Texas and Texas Tech in Lubbock. She worked as a second grade teacher in Quanah, Texas until she married Richard Z. "Dick" Bailey on August 20, 1933. Dick and Edrie were married 57 years when he passed away in 1990. Their union produced two sons and one daughter.
Mrs. Bailey was a devoted wife and very supportive of her husband in his profession as a cotton buyer for Anderson Clayton Co. Dick Bailey was responsible for his company's operation in North Texas and Oklahoma and was the first Texan elected president of the Oklahoma Cotton Association. The family lived in Altus, OK, Vernon, TX, Stamford, TX, and Chickasha, OK before returning to Vernon in 1958. Edrie, a dedicated homemaker, remained in Vernon until 1994 where she was active in the first United Methodist church and the Home Science Club. She was an accomplished seamstress and excellent cook who loved piano music and enjoyed preparing family meals. The church played an important role in her life, and she raised her children with strong Christian principles.
In 1994 she moved to Arlington, Texas to be close to her daughter and her daughter's family. She took great pride in her family and their accomplishments, and will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. To her family she was the epitome of unconditional love.
Survivors are two sons, Richard F. Bailey and his wife, Deanna, of Duncan, OK, and Jerry D. Bailey and his wife, Barbara, of Lawrence, KS; a daughter, Mary Estes and her husband, Jon, of Arlington, TX; a brother, Garland Caldwell and his wife, Dorothy, of Hardeman County; grandchildren, Richard A. Bailey and his wife, Angela, David L. Bailey and his wife, Karen, Andrew Bailey, Elisabeth Estes Essary and her husband, Bryce, Michael Estes, and Caroline Estes; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers.
Visitation will be Monday, May 17, 2004, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sullivan Funeral Home.
