John Cameron was born the third of six children to Colin Cameron and Elizabeth Sinclair Fraser. According to his birth certificate, he was born in Glennig, Parish of Knockbain, County of Ross, Scotland. He emmigrated to Canada, arriving in Quebec in 1881. He married Agnes Scott Bell 17 May 1882 at Isle de Montreal. They had one child in Canada and then moved to Ramsey County, Minnesota where they had 4 more children before moving to Prince George's County, Maryland where he and Agnes had three more children, one of whom lived past early childhood. John grew vegetables on his Maryland farm and sold them from his wagon on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D. C. John is buried with his wife and three of his children.
