Joseph Verney Billington, son of Henry Thomas and Susan Sharp Billington passed away at 11 p.m., November 29, 1949 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Lasley in Mount Sterling, Ill.
He was one of a family of twelve children. Three brothers and two sisters survive. They are: Will Billington of California; Leonard Billington of Twin Falls, Idaho; Marion Billington of Minnesota; Lona Lowe of Kimberly, Idaho; and Pearl Moore of Kirksville, Mo.
His early life was spent near Kirksville, Mo. There on April 19, 1903, he was married to Margaret Cleora McKitrick, who survives. To them were born four children; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Haines of Kahoka; Mrs. Ruby Lasley of Mt. Sterling, Illinois; Mrs. Goldie Walker of Ashton and one son, Verney Billington of Kahoka. He also leaves to mourn his death, twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
For almost twenty-five years he has been employed by the Missouri State Highway Department. He came to Wayland in 1929 and has lived in or near Wayland and Kahoka since that time.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon December 2, at 2 p.m., at the Karle Funeral Home in Kahoka, conducted by the Rev. J. M. Monroe.
Members of the Missouri State Highway Department, Wesley Hayden, Alfred P. Hays, O.D. Inlow, Howard Caulkins, Thomas J. Brennan, and Willie S. Bash, with whom he worked will serve as pallbearers.
Granddaughters, Mrs. Mary Margaret Bair, Mrs. Dorothy Gordy and Miss Louise Walker will serve as flower girls.
Interment was in the Kahoka Sunny Slope cemetery.
As a friend to all and especially to the many children who have known him, his memory will always be cherished.
