"The Late Jabez Allison. Owing to the absence of the editor from town at that time, the death of Jabez Allison of Hindsburgh, which occurred about three weeks ago was unnoticed in these columns. Mr. Allison had for many years held a leading position not only in his own town but in the county. He had several times been chosen to represent his town upon the Board of Supervisors, in which body his sound judgement and marked ability always gave him prominence. He had been the candidate of the party for various county offices and on all such occasions was the recipient of more than a party vote. As a business man he was energetic and strictly honorable; as a citizen he was public spirited and liberal; as a friend he was always true. His attachment to the principles of the democratic party was unwavering, and his advocacy of its policies constant. He had been in feeble health for some years and heavy losses bringing him to insolvency, the past fall undermined the little strength remaining and probably hastened the dissolution which could not under the most favorable circumstances have been long delayed. His memory will long flourish green in the hearts of them who knew his worth."
