Donald S. Adams, 88, of 17 Florence Street, Dalton, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at North Adams Commons, where he had been a resident for a short time.
Born February 23, 1920 in Lanesborough, son of James R. and Laura Barnes Adams, he was a 1938 graduate of the former Dalton High School. He received a bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry from the University of Massachusetts in 1942.
Mr. Adams was employed as a laboratory technician by General Electric in the transformer manufacturing division for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the Dalton United Methodist Church. Mr. Adams was a avid raccoon hunter and spent many years teaching the values of hunting and the appreciation for the outdoors.
For many years, he helped build houses and check the nests for the Mass Audubon Society for Blue Birds. He was also a member of the Unity Lodge of Masons. He was an avid gardener and a Red Sox fan.
He leaves his wife, the former Florence Grace Kendall, whom he married on August 29, 1941. Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter, Marilyn G. Johnson of Fort Mills, South Carolina; two sons, Donald K. Adams of Hinsdale, and James R. Adams of Lanesborough; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Adams.
There will be no funeral services per his wishes.
