|The church in Sottrup, Denmark where Jørgen was baptised in 1881.|
Sottrup is a village in the centre of the peninsula Sundeved in North Schleswig, not far from Dybbøl, which in 1849 and 1864 was the scene of considerable bloodshed in the wars between Denmark and Germany. Being in an elevated position the church can be seen far and wide in the landscape since the tower has an unusually tall spire - about four times as high as the building itself.
The nave and chancel date from the Romanesque period (1050-1250), while the tower was erected in the 15th century.
Sottrup Kirke, Vester Sottrup, Sundeved, nordvest for Sønderborg blev opført omkring år 1200 og består af kor, skib af kamp og en gotisk korforlængelse i mursten.
