Egbert H. McFadden, president of the city school board at Covington and brother of J. Ralph McFadden, Memphis lumberman, died at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at Baptist Hospital, in his sixtieth year.
Mr. McFadden left the hospital two weeks ago after spending six weeks there, during which time he underwent an operation for appendicitis and gall bladder trouble. Last Friday night he had a heart attack at his home in Covington and Saturday he was returned to the hospital. He had two heart attacks Saturday and his condition gradually became worse.
Mr. McFadden was for many years manager of the Covington branch of J. T. Ferguson and Co., Memphis wholesalers, and when the branch was closed early this year, he went in the wholesale business there for himself.
He was serving his second term as president of the school board and had been a member of the board for more than 20 years contributing unsparingly of his time and energies to the building of the Covington school system. Hunting and fishing were his recreations and he was much beloved in the community.
He was born at Covington and was educated at Union University. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Covington.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Roberta Boyde McFadden; a daughter, Miss Dorothy McFadden; two brothers, J. Ralph McFadden of Covington, and a sister, Mrs. W. A. Owen, widow of the distinguished Judge Owen of the court of appeals, who died recently.
Funeral services will be held at 5 o'clock this afternoon at First Baptist Church at Covington. The Rev. Homer G. Lindsay will officiate.
Burial will be in Munford Cemetery.
