Francis E. Benn, for many years a well known resident of Amsterdam, died Tuesday afternnon at 4:30 o'clock at the home of his niece, Mrs. Sherman Deforest, at Sacandaga. He had gone to Sacandaga Monday, for a visit, and Tuesday afternoon went on a motor trip to Wells, being apparently in the best of health. Shortly after his return to the DeForest home he was seized with a gasping spell and expired before a doctor could reach him, although one was immediately summoned from Northville.
Mr. Benn was In his 78th year, and was a son of the late Israel P. and Jane Bishop Benn, being born at Hagaman, Nov. 18, 1849. He was for many years connected with, the textile industry of this city, and for over 30 years was foreman in the setting room of the carpet plant of S. Sanford & Sons of Amsterdam, but had been living a retired life for a number of years.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Thomas J. Carlon of Monticello, N.J., and Mrs. Wilson Delamater of Ballston Lake; and a nephew, Arthur Benn, of this city, and a niece, Mrs. Sherman DeForest, of Sacandaga. The remains were brought to Amsterdam and taken to the undertaking rooms of Merriam & Waterstreet.
