N. N. DENTON, CIVIL WAR VETERAN, IS DEAD
Organized Seattle Chapter of Delta Upsilon Fraternity--Was Prominent Mason

Nehemiah N. Denton, a civil war veteran, said to be the oldest living member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, one of the organizers of the Seattle chapter, died at Port Orchard, late Tuesday evening. He was 73 years of age.

Born in Canandaigua, N.Y., where he received his early schooling, Mr. Denton later completed his education at the University of Rochester. At the outbreak of the civil war he joined the First regiment, New York engineers. At the close of the struggle he moved to California, locating at Sacramento, where he was married and resided for an even half century. He took an active part in church and Y.M.C.A. work and was also prominently identified with the Masonic Lodge, of which he was a member.

Surviving relatives include his widow, Mary E. Denton, and a son, Frank L. Denton, of Seattle, and a brother, Charles H. Denton, of Sacramento. Funeral services will be held at the Bonney-Watson chapel Saturday afternoon, at 1:30 o'clock. The body will be shipped to Sacramento for interment. My daughter and I went to the Sacramento City Cemetery today and we came across some Denton's. There were eight Denton's all together.
Nehemiah N. Denton and wife Mary.
There was a Frank L. Denton, Fannie L., Solomon, Esther, Charles H. and Anna O. Denton. I know Nehemiah and Mary were husband and wife, because of the inscription, but I do not know how the others are connected. I wish I could tell you more but I can't. However, I am thinking from the look of things that Solomon b. 1816 and Esther b. 1818 were the parent's, Nehemiah b. 1842 and Charles b. 1846 their children and Frank the grandson. The ladies, Mary b. 1848 and Anna b. 1848, daughter-in-laws and Fannie the granddaughter-in-law, possibly the wife of Frank. I am a double Denton so I was quite excited to find some possible relatives. Charles and Anna were right next to each other.

Before I added Nehemiah I looked for him here at Find A Grave but I did not get anything so I added him. Well, just now going back to see it, two came up and I see he was here after all. lol This it what it said...
