JOSEPH W. APPLETON (1833-1862)

The 12th Alabama Regiment was organized in July 1861 with E Company coming from DeKalb County, Alabama. It was at once moved to the "Potomac front". The regiment was near Manassas during the fall and winter (1861), and it moved to Yorktown in the spring, 1862.
