MILITARY SERVICE: Joseph served in the Union Army with his father and brother from Sept. 1864 to Sept. 1865.
He was a Private in Comp. E, 54th Mounted Infantry and described himself as age 18, a farmer with gray eyes, light-colored hair, light complexion and 5' 7" tall.
He was buried on the family farm at Five Mile Creek, Franklinton area, Henry County Ky. His grave is marked with a military grave stone. His wife Mahala was buried in Franklinton Cemetery. She died the day before her 84th Birthday.
