Roddelle Brantley (Roddy) Folsom, 74, Valdosta, passed away Monday evening, Feb. 28, 2000 after a lengthy illness at South Georgia Medical Center. She was born on March 8, 1925 in Harrison to the late Roger T. and Evona Brantley. Roddy had lived in Valdosta since 1952 and was retired from South Georgia Regional Library after 43 years of service and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Valdosta. She was active in many community organizations including Wymodausis serving as treasurer, Quota Club where she was selected as Woman of the year in 1980 and Jr. Woman's Club Woman of Achievement in 1988, member of the Azalea City Garden Club, Readers Forum, Civic Roundtable, AAUW, Literary Guild and several others.

Roddy was an avid bridge player. She was instrumental in seeing that libraries were built in Lanier County, Hahira, Lake Park, Southside Valdosta and Statenville. She considered this to be her greatest library accomplishment during her career. The meting room at the South Georgia Regional Library was dedicated in her honor. She was a devoted community leader and volunteer.

Survivors include her daughter and fiancé, Yvonne Folsom and Jimmy Morris; her future grandchildren, Kirt and Katie Morris, Quitman; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Folsom, Lakeland, and Lula Finney, Lake Park; two special nephews and their wives, Steve and Joann Carter, great niece, Stephanie Carter, Benny and Margaret Carter, and great nephew, Ben Carter Jr.; and a number of other nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She had three special travel companions, Stuart and Doris Scruggs and Jeanne Ryan. Roddy was preceded in death by her husband, Brownie Folsom.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday in the chapel of the Cason McLane Funeral Home with the Rev. Mac Weaver and the Rev. Benny Oliff officiating. Entombment will be held in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Library or Friends of he South Georgia Regional Library.
