Anna was born Nov 10, 1890 in Barnesville, Ohio of the marriage between John D. and Rebecca (Wood) Purkey. After Rebecca's death in 1892, Anna (along with her twin brother Earl who never married) were placed in an orphanage in Sigourney, IA. They were adopted by Thomas E & Martha (Williams) Smith in 1893. She went on to marry Charles Vogel Edmundson in 1911, and their marriage was gifted with two sons Thomas Cleo and Charles Vogel II. Only five years after their marriage, her husband Vogel died. Five years after his death, Anna re-married to William (Bill) Walker Scott. From her marriage to Bill, they had nine children: Robert Dale, Dorothy Helen, Merle William, Margaret Patricia, Forest, Leroy Eugene, Charles Cleo, and twins Merle and Raymond who both died shortly after birth.

Gravesite Details

The small original headstone was provided at Vogel's death in 1918. Charles Vogel Edmundson II made arrangements for the large combined headstone in 1982 at the time of Anna's death. Vogel's name was spelled incorrectly on the original headstone.
