LAST RITES HELD SATURDAY FOR W. E. MANSFIELD

Last rites for W. E. (Uncle Ed) Mansfield were held at the Plummer Funeral Home Chapel last Saturday morning, March 10, 1956, at 10:30 o'clock, with Rev. John Platt, pastor of the Bandera Methodist Church officiating and interment was made in the Mansfield family plot in the Bandera cemetery.

William Edward Mansfield, Uncle Ed, as he was affectionately known to hundreds of friends and relatives, was born March 10, 1875, in Bandera. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Mansfield, early residents of this community. He grew to manhood and was happily married to Miss Cora Buck. To this union was born six sons and four daughters. All survive except one son, who died in infancy.

Uncle Ed Mansfield was the first and only president of the Bandera Ranchmen and Farmers Association. When the Association was organized in 1920 he was elected the first president, a position which he had for almost 36 years. The warehouse and its activities were his pride and joy, and he took part in its functions as long as possible. He watched it grow from a very small organization to its major proportions of today.

He owned Mansfield Park, famous the world over for its rodeos and other entertainment. His ready wit and good fellowship will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The masses of beautiful flowers which banked the funeral home gave mute testimony to the love and esteem of his hundreds of friends and relatives.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cora Mansfield; five sons, Homer Mansfield of Junction, Frank and Bruce Mansfield of Bandera, Hayden Mansfield of Cap Rock, N. M., Bill Mansfield of Medina; daughters, Mrs. Earl Davenport and Mrs. Jack Vanderveer of Bandera, Mrs. Morris Witt of Foreman, Arkansas, and Mrs. C. M. Mayfield of Amarillo; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Mansfield of California.

Pall bearers were Frank Montague Sr., Jos. W. Short, Jr., Ray F. Wyatt, Fabian Garrison of Hondo, O. O. Adams, Burgin Davenport and Forest Stevens.
