Israel Aseltine was born 10-27-1834 in Canada to John (1791-1860) and Laura (1794-1859) Aseltine. The family later moved to Michigan and settled in Alaiedon Township.
On 11-26-1853 Israel married Angeline Dunnim in Ingham County, Michigan. Together they had 2 known children. Amos (1856-1872) and John (1859-1870). Amos died 2-1-1872 of Infammation of Lungs at 15 years 11 months 17 days.
Angeline died in 1860.
He then married Lucinda Minkley (1844-1870). They had 4 known children. Perry (1862-1928),Aldelbert (1864-1879), Frank (1866-1941) and Alice J. (1869-1938). Aldelbert died of diphtheria in September of 1879. He is buried in DuBois Cemetery. Lucinda died 11-16-1870 of a tumor at 26 years 4 months 20 days.
On 12-29-1872 he married Eliza Chriswell (1830-1914)
She died 5-18-1914 and is buried in Ionia County.
The 1880 Census shows them in Alaiedon Township. Along with Lillie Chriswell (who was a child of Eliza's), Perry, Frank and Alice. Records show they had one known male child together. Born 5-7-1875 and died 5-17-1875. It is assumed this child is buried in DuBois Cemetery.
The 1894 Michigan Census shows them still in Alaiedon Township with only Alice, age 25.
Israel's death certificate states 9 children, 3 living. At this time, only 7 are accounted for. It is assumed the other 2 may have died as infants.
Israel occupation is stated as farming. He died 9-18-1908 at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 21 days at the home of his son Perry in Wheatfield Township. He is buried in the DuBois Cemetery, Alaiedon Township, Ingham County Michigan. No stone is visible.
