Born October 9, 1924, in Fultonville, he was the son of George and Loretta (Kreber) Emden, both deceased. George attended Fonda-Fultonville schools and proudly served his country in the Navy as a fireman aboard the USS Melville.
"Jerry" and Rita LaVerdure were married April 28, 1946. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years on July 1, 1997.
He was an avid collector, old coins, antique clocks, cars and racing, and he was the Montgomery County Stock Car Champion "Jerry Jerome" from 1950-1954.
"Jerry" worked for several years as one of the top salesmen of the former Nelson Jones Ford Company in Gloversville. He later went on to his own business, J & E Enterprises of Johnstown, selling used cars.
Survivors include: five children, George III, Candace (John) Pianelli, Albert "Toby," Kymberly, and Gerald; and his loving sister, Mary Louise "Sis" Dumar of Fonda; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A private burial will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville with full military honors.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Shirley Therrien, his health aide, for her time, dedication and kindness during our father's last years. You have become a family friend.
We would also like to acknowledge our gratitude to Dr. Julie Phillips and the dedicated team of professionals at the Veterans Hospice Care Unit in Albany, along with fond thanks to Doug Zill, Navy Veteran and new friend. Our heartfelt thanks to you all for your support, kindness and care.
Donations may be made in his name to: VA Stratton Medical Center Hospice Unit, c/o Sandy Osborne, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY 12208.
In lieu of cards and flowers, the family asks for your prayers and memories to be shared all around. He was loved.
