Irene was born in Pinkneyville, IL, the daughter of the late Frederick H. and Emma (Geistdoeffer) Kennedy. She graduated from the Hinsdale Nursing School, Hinsdale, IL in 1927. She lived in West Hartford for 47 years and retired as a registered nurse from Hartford Hospital. In 1998 she moved to Altamont, NY to live with her son and his family. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in West Hartford.
Her husband, Edmund A. Caruso in 1988; and her daughter, Joan C. Galanski in 1997, predeceased her.
Survivors include her son, James P. Caruso and his wife Rosemary of Altamonte, NY; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 24, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m., in the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with a prayer service at 12:45 p.m. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Calling hours in New York will be TODAY, 6-8 p.m., at the Fredendall Funeral Home, 199 Main St., Altamont, NY. Those who wish may make contributions to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or to a charity of one's choice.
