Jakob and Rosa sailed from Bremen, Germany on the "America" and arrived at Ellis Island 8 Apr 1922 with all seven of their children and a nephew, Hans Wernli. They decided to immigrate due to the rosy picture painted by his sister, Lina, of conditions in Texas. They settled in Karnes County, TX and he farmed at Monteola for twelve years and then removed to Peggy, TX. He died at the home of his daughter, Rosa Eastburn about 5:00 P.M. The funeral service was held at the Eckols Chapel in Kenedy with the Rev. Lester K. Larsen officiating.
