Vanessa H Carter, 58, of Phenix City, Alabama, died Monday September 12, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be held 11:00am (EDT) Saturday September 17th in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867 . Interment will be in Crawford Cemetery, Crawford, AL. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carter was born August 24, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of the late Rex Holyfield and Mary Langley Holyfield. She was formerly employed by Smiths Station High School in the food service department.
Mrs. Carter was a member of the Grace Assembly of God Church in Phenix City. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by a brother, sister and half sister.

Survivors include her husband, Darrell Carter of Phenix City, sons, James W, Pippin of Murfreesboro, TN., Jason Pippin of Phenix City, stepson, Timothy Carter and wife Sandy of Salem, AL., brother, David Bishop of New Augusta, MS., sisters, Annie Proctor of Graceville, FL., Linda Ford of Smyrna, TN., Pearlene Shirley of Phenix City, Coralee Marshall of Ft.
