Major League Baseball Player. Played Major League baseball as a catcher for five seasons (1921 to 1925) with the Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. He might have had a longer career, had he not enlisted in the United States Army at the outbreak of World War I. Leaving Newark of the International League, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 87th Infantry Division, and saw action in France before the war ended. His career delayed by his service, he reached the Majors in 1921 with the Phillies, and had a sound rookie year, batting .310 with 5 Home Runs and 28 RBIs in 96 games. However, the emergence of Butch Henline as the Phils' regular catcher made Frank Bruggy expendable after only one year, and he was dealt to the cross-town A’s to back up starting catcher Cy Perkins. He performed his backup and pinch-hitting role adequately for the next three seasons, but was again rendered expendable after 1924 when future Hall of Fame catcher Mickey Cochrane became ensconced as the A's starting catcher (a position he would hold for the next 10 years) and Cy Perkins was relegated to the back-up role. Sent to the Reds, he played only 6 games for them in 1925 before ending his brief career. His career totals were 241 Games Played, 172 Hits, 6 Home Runs, 52 RBIS and a career .277 Batting Average. After his playing days ended, he worked as a police detective for the Union County, New Jersey Prosecutors office for 27 years.
