Ellen was the daughter of William and Gilliana "Gilly" Forrest.

She married John Jackson "J J" Chapman about 1850. He was born Jan 6, 1830 in South Carolina, and died December 29, 1891 in Saluda Co., SC. He is buried in the OLD Good Hope Lutheran Church Cemetery.

They had at least seven children.
